-
- Amateur TV exists and seems to be growing in popularity. ATVers
- primarily communicate two-way with other amateurs. ATV can be used in
- that role as a sort of video phone over the air. One-way
- communications (transmitting a signal that isn't part of a
- conversation) is restricted to only certain special cases, and
- broadcasting is prohibited. Ham transmissions must give station
- identification a bit more than once every 10 minutes, and no music is
- allowed. The hams involved may not gain pecuniary benefit from the
- transmission, so any sort of business communications is out, period.
-
- ATV is not conventional commercial or public TV broadcasting. I
- think ATV will not be of much use to your cable TV show.
-
- If ATV sounds like fun anyway, you should get your Technician class ham
- license. It's the usual entry-level license these days. Books to
- introduce you to ham radio and prepare you for the license exam are
- available from Radio Shack, bookstores, and ham radio stores.

- First a question about the amcomm s225.
- This is a mobile unit from the mid-'70s.
- Recv seems ok but the TX is off by +2.8kHz.
- I have the schematics but it is an unusual design.
- Anyone have any experience with this model or
- willing to make some suggestions if I send a copy of the schematic?
-
- Second I would like to investigate a noise problem on transmitted audio from
- the ft-23 while using an external mike. Does anyone have a service manual
- and/or schematic of which they would be willing to send copies?

- I seem to have a serious problem. My girlfriend mistakenly unplugged
- my Pro 43 with normal energizer batteries and placed the plug in the
- charge jack. To cut to the chase, my baterries leaked a bit. Fortunately
- the scanner was in an upright position so it did not leak "up" too far.
- I just discovered this, but decided to take off the back cover before
- I proceeded. The acid has discolored the bottom circuit board (the one
- on the side facing the keypad just below the battery contacts (where they
- connect).
-
- How do I get the acid stabalized and hope fully removed?

- One more thing.....
-
- I believe it would be a GOOD thing for States and municipalities to legislate
- WITHIN their own realms CLEARLY on the topic of the safety of radio towers
- and the regulations to get permits. This is the job of the State
- and it needs to legislate there. If a law is proposed to clarify such
- regulations and to give the ham a fair shot (according to the latest
- and best interpretation of PRB-1) at specific height limitations, etc.,
- they might help the situation. However, the FCC never really gave us a
- handle on that with PRB-1, the text gives no clue on what constitutes
- "reasonable", and thus a lot of Court cases running around.
-
- Shoot, if I was on the Supreme Court, I'd fix this mess and we would all
- enjoy a more realistic balance of Amateur Radio antenna rights versus the
- health and safety of the public.

- broken - it operates differently from yours. I have accepted that it
- operates differently and that I need to compensate for that by having

- I've never tried spelunking, much less spelunking and hamming at the same time,

- Here in northern NJ there are at least 6 repeaters I can hit with
- my 50 watt TS-690 on 6M. Most require the tone (PL) to activate.
- Many of these repeaters are crossband linked to 440 machines also.

- To have a State legislate that its own arms of government should not

- law and the financial burden of the case, but in the ideal situation
- it would solve the problem.)
